Chauffeur questions, answered

Plain answers about hiring chauffeurs and private transportation on Chauffrr. Where rules differ by market, we say so.

What is a private chauffeur?

A private chauffeur is a professional driver engaged to transport one client or group exclusively, usually for a set period such as an hour, a day, or longer. Unlike shared or on-demand rides, the booking is arranged in advance and the chauffeur stays with the client for the agreed time. Licensing requirements depend on the city and country where the service operates.

What is the difference between a chauffeur and a rideshare driver?

A rideshare driver typically accepts individual on-demand trips assigned by an app, and the vehicle and driver change from ride to ride. A chauffeur is booked in advance for a defined period or itinerary, stays with the client, and can wait between stops. Pricing also differs: rideshare is usually per trip, while chauffeur services are usually priced by time, such as hourly or daily.

Can I hire a driver and car for an entire day?

Yes. Full-day bookings reserve a chauffeur and vehicle for an extended block of time, which suits back-to-back meetings, sightseeing, or family logistics. The length of a 'day', overtime terms, and whether fuel is included are set by each provider and vary by market. In daily-oriented markets such as Lagos and Cotonou, a full-day engagement is the common default.

Can I book the same chauffeur for a week?

Yes, where the provider offers multi-day or weekly bookings. A weekly arrangement reserves the same chauffeur, and usually the same vehicle, across several days, so you do not need to rebook each day. Daily hours, rest periods, overtime, and fuel terms are set by the provider and should be confirmed in the booking details.

How do monthly chauffeur retainers work?

A monthly chauffeur retainer reserves a chauffeur, and typically a vehicle, for an agreed schedule across a month — for example weekday business hours. It suits executives, families, and companies with recurring transportation needs. Included hours, overtime, mileage, fuel, and cancellation terms are defined in the retainer agreement with the provider.

How much does a chauffeur cost?

Chauffeur cost depends on the city, vehicle class, booking duration, and the provider's terms. In hourly markets such as New York, London, Paris, and Dubai, providers usually charge per hour with a minimum. In daily markets such as Lagos and Cotonou, a daily rate is more common. On Chauffrr, each provider publishes its own rates, and the full price is shown before you confirm.

Does chauffeur pricing include fuel?

It depends on the provider and market. Some providers include fuel in their rate, some exclude it and bill separately, and some include fuel up to a mileage allowance. Chauffrr lets providers specify their fuel model on each listing so you can see whether fuel is included before booking. Do not assume all providers in a city follow the same rule.

Can transportation companies list multiple vehicles?

Yes. Transportation companies can operate one business account on Chauffrr with multiple vehicle listings and individual driver profiles. Bookings for company-operated services are managed by the company, distinct from independent chauffeurs who list themselves. Companies must provide applicable operating licences, insurance, and vehicle documentation for verification.

Can businesses reserve dedicated chauffeurs?

Yes. Through Chauffrr Business, organisations can set up a corporate account, add employees, and arrange recurring or retainer-based transportation with participating providers. Dedicated arrangements reserve a chauffeur or vehicle for an agreed schedule. Availability depends on market launch status and provider capacity.

What documents must chauffeurs provide?

Chauffeurs generally provide identity documents, a valid driving licence, any for-hire or chauffeur licence required in their jurisdiction, vehicle registration, and proof of applicable commercial insurance. Exact requirements depend on the city and country. Chauffrr's Compliance Center tracks required documents per market; requirements not yet confirmed against official sources are marked pending verification.

How does Chauffrr verify transportation providers?

Chauffrr reviews documents submitted by chauffeurs and transportation companies — such as identity, licences, vehicle registration, and insurance certificates — through its Compliance Center and Chauffrr Protect verification. Verification badges appear only when the relevant record has been reviewed and approved. Chauffrr Protect is verification and safety infrastructure; it is not an insurance policy.

What happens when a chauffeur booking runs overtime?

When a booking runs beyond the reserved time, additional time is generally billed as overtime under the provider's terms, which may use a set increment or rate. The chauffeur may also have later commitments, so extensions depend on availability. Overtime terms are shown on the listing and booking summary.

Can I select a specific chauffeur and vehicle?

Yes. On Chauffrr you browse individual chauffeur and company profiles and choose the provider and vehicle you want, rather than being assigned whoever is nearest. Listings show the vehicle, service options, and verification status supplied by the provider.

What is the difference between an hourly booking and a chauffeur retainer?

An hourly booking reserves a chauffeur for a specific block of hours on a single occasion. A retainer reserves a chauffeur's time on a recurring basis — weekly or monthly — under an agreed schedule and terms. Retainers suit ongoing needs; hourly bookings suit one-off trips, meetings, or events.
